My Story

I love my work and never cease to be amazed by people’s strength, compassion, humility and capacity for positive change. As far back as I can remember, I have always enjoyed working with people. Prior to my training in counselling and psychotherapy, I worked within the health and social care profession, supporting children and adults with disabilities and learning difficulties in South Wales. Since then, I have worked extensively with young people and adults within schools, universities, private healthcare and NHS settings as a counsellor.

When I’m not a therapist, I love spending quality time with my family, walking my dogs, exploring new music and exercising. I am also neurodivergent, which brings both a personal and professional understanding of the different ways we can experience, process and navigate the world. This lived experience is an important part of who I am and has helped shape the curiosity, openness and acceptance I bring to my work as a therapist.

I am passionate about Men’s Mental Health and finding new ways to engage more men – helping them to make sense of their internal world, their identity, and how they respond to situations from a place of greater self-awareness, assertiveness and self-compassion. My hope is that they feel better equipped to navigate the difficult periods of life.

I specialise in Couples Therapy. Throughout my life, I have always found relationships fascinating and thoroughly enjoy working collaboratively with couples towards healing, happiness and healthier relationships. In this space, I use my sensitivity to tune in to each partner, facilitate awareness and develop greater understanding. I believe everyone is unique and interesting, and when we feel that another person is genuinely interested in us, we are more likely to thrive and grow within our relationships.

I have always had a particular interest in working with anger, which has developed into a specific area of expertise for me. Throughout the past 15 years, I have enjoyed working creatively with clients, as well as fellow therapists, to better understand the causes of anger and how we can use it as a positive force for change. I have been inspired by the transformational shifts I have witnessed as people develop greater self-compassion, clarity and confidence, and become more assertive – qualities I see as vital when navigating mental health difficulties such as depression and anxiety.

My core model and approach as a therapist is Humanistic and Integrative. This theoretical stance recognises every individual as unique, with a belief that the client knows what is best for them and a strong emphasis on the quality of the therapeutic relationship. With a strong psychodynamic influence, I also use a developmental, trauma-informed approach to understand my clients’ life experiences and how these may continue to influence them in the present.

My therapeutic style is centred around respect and empathy, infused with humour and warmth. My aim is to help you alleviate your pain and become more aware of your feelings and patterns of relating to yourself and others. I aim to offer new perspectives, deepen awareness and encourage your potential for growth and change.

I love working with people who are truly ready to dig in – to do the work necessary to create positive, lasting changes in their lives. With me, you can expect a practical and direct, yet down-to-earth approach – designed to meet you where you are.

I recognise and value the positive experience of feeling acknowledged, understood and accepted by others. My intention, therefore, is to welcome you into a safe and secure therapeutic relationship where you can feel supported in exploring the issues that matter to you.
